There were no funeral pictures taken of Edgar Poe. He was hastily buried and the cost was borne by a person not even of Poe’s family. Not to mention a photo wouldn’t be this good, 1849 was less then 10 years from the creation of photography which was mostly daguerreotype. This photo is maybe 80-100 years old and is of a young man in his 20’s, not about to turn 41 and embalming didn’t exist in 1849. Nice try whoever posted this.
Actually, you’re absolutely right about there being no photos, but in addition it doesn’t even look like him based on the photos that are authentic. However, his cousin, Nielson Poe, eventually paid for a burial. The City of Baltimore and school children years later collected funds to purchase the large tombstone we see today.
No no no. This is not Edgar Allan Poe. If you look at contemporaneous images from 1849 there’s no resemblance. Further, he had no money for a funeral or a coffin nothing his cousin reluctantly agreed to pay for his burial (not the fancy tombstone you see now). He wouldn’t be able to afford a photo, the records are clear that none were taken, and let’s get this ridiculous thing off the web
